About 4x4 House

What the marketplace is for, which vehicles fit and why we keep it private.

What is 4x4 House?

4x4 House is a curated UK marketplace for privately owned pickup trucks, capable 4x4s and specialist overland vehicles. It is designed around interesting, properly presented vehicles rather than general dealer stock.

Which vehicles can be advertised?

We normally accept pickup trucks, traditional and capable 4x4s, overland or expedition builds, and relevant modified, classic, imported or unusual vehicles. Every submission is reviewed against our Listing Rules.

Does every four-wheel-drive SUV qualify?

No. Four driven wheels alone do not make a vehicle suitable. A Toyota Land Cruiser is a proper 4x4 and belongs here; a road-focused SUV such as a BMW X5 normally does not. We assess the particular model, generation and configuration, not simply the badge or DVLA body type.

Can dealers advertise?

No. The marketplace is currently for genuine private sellers. Dealers, brokers, buying services, commercial breakers and anyone selling wholly or mainly for business purposes may not present themselves as a private seller.

Can I advertise a project, non-runner or imported vehicle?

Potentially, yes. It must fit the specialist focus, be located in the United Kingdom and have its identity, condition, legal status and material faults described honestly. Imports must be legally present in the UK. Submission does not guarantee acceptance.

Can I advertise a vehicle for breaking or sell parts?

Not at launch. Parts, accessories, commercial breaking stock and parts-only vehicles would clutter the main marketplace and need different search and safety rules. Complete, relevant project vehicles may be accepted if their condition is made clear.

Not sure whether yours fits?

02

Selling a vehicle

Creating, maintaining and renewing a private advert.

How do I create an advert?

Create or sign into your account, then use the Create a Listing form. Complete every relevant field, upload clear recent photographs and submit it for review. We may contact you if anything needs clarifying.

Is a standard private advert free?

Yes, where the listing form identifies the standard advert as free. Optional boosts or managed services are separate and any price will be shown before you commit. A free advert still has to meet the same eligibility, accuracy and quality rules.

What information will I need?

You will need the vehicle's correct specification, mileage, MOT and service history, general condition, asking price, VAT status, town and county, modifications, equipment, known faults and suitable photographs. Write-off, import, finance, mileage or chassis issues must be disclosed.

Do I have to publish my home address?

No. The public advert should show only the town and county where the vehicle can be viewed. Do not upload your exact address, full V5C, bank details or document reference numbers. Share a viewing address privately once you are satisfied that an enquiry is genuine.

How long does an advert remain live?

Unless a different period is shown when you submit, a free advert runs for up to 30 days from publication. We may ask you to confirm that the vehicle is still available and the information remains accurate before renewing it.

Can I edit my advert after submitting it?

Yes. Sign into your profile to manage the advert. Material changes may require another review before appearing publicly. If you spot an error you cannot correct, contact us promptly.

What happens when the vehicle sells?

Mark it as sold or remove it immediately, including if it sells through another platform. Leaving unavailable vehicles live wastes buyers' time and may affect future listing approval.

Why might my advert be rejected or removed?

Common reasons include an unsuitable vehicle, poor or copied photographs, missing material facts, inconsistent information, suspected trade activity, an unrealistic placeholder price or failure to answer a reasonable query. Serious or misleading breaches may also lead to account suspension.

Will my vehicle appear on 4x4 House social media?

It may, but ordinary publication does not guarantee a social feature. We choose vehicles and content according to quality, audience relevance and the editorial schedule. Any guaranteed promotional element will be described as part of a specific paid service.

03

Boosts & managed selling

Optional help for sellers who want stronger presentation or additional visibility.

What is a boosted or featured advert?

It is an optional paid upgrade that may provide additional placement, presentation or promotion for an agreed period. The exact features, duration and price will be shown before purchase.

Does paying guarantee that my vehicle will sell?

No. A paid option can improve presentation or visibility, but it cannot guarantee views, enquiries, an offer, a sale price or a completed sale. The vehicle, price, condition and market still determine buyer interest.

Does a paid advert bypass approval?

No. Every paid advert remains subject to the same vehicle eligibility and honesty requirements. Payment does not prevent us from pausing or removing an advert that is false, misleading, ineligible or unsafe.

What does the managed-selling service include?

Depending on the quotation, it may include professional photography, video, advert writing, listing administration, enquiry support or promotion. Availability depends on the vehicle, location and service capacity. Contact us for the exact scope and price.

Does 4x4 House become the seller?

No, unless a separate written agreement expressly says otherwise. You retain ownership, approve all factual information, decide whether to accept an offer and complete the transaction directly with the buyer.

Can I get a refund if the vehicle does not sell?

Not simply because it remains unsold. Paid advertising and managed services pay for the work or placement described, not a guaranteed result. Cancellation, undelivered services and adverts removed for rule breaches are handled under our Terms and Conditions.

04

Buying safely

How the transaction works and what every buyer must check independently.

Who am I buying the vehicle from?

You buy directly from the private seller named in the advert, not from 4x4 House. The seller and buyer make the sale contract between themselves.

Does 4x4 House inspect or guarantee vehicles?

No. Reviewing an advert, improving its wording or photographing a vehicle is not a mechanical inspection, history check, valuation, warranty or endorsement. Buyers must complete their own checks and arrange an independent inspection where appropriate.

How do I contact a seller?

Use the contact or enquiry option on the individual advert. Keep initial communication focused on the vehicle and never use seller details for marketing, unrelated messages or automated enquiries.

Do I pay through 4x4 House?

No. Buyers pay sellers directly. 4x4 House does not currently hold vehicle deposits, process the purchase price or provide an escrow service. Treat anybody claiming to offer “4x4 House escrow” as suspicious.

What should I check before buying?

Verify the seller, ownership, V5C, VIN, MOT, mileage, finance, theft and write-off history. Inspect the chassis, mechanical condition, modifications and four-wheel-drive system, confirm insurance and road legality, then record the agreement in writing. Read our full Buyer Safety guide.

How do I report a suspicious or misleading advert?

Use our contact page and include the advert link, a clear explanation and any evidence you can lawfully share. We may pause the advert while reviewing it, but we cannot decide a private legal dispute between buyer and seller.

Still need an answer?

Send us the details and we will point you in the right direction. If you are ready to sell, you can go straight to the listing form.
