4x4 House legal
Terms &
conditions.
The rules for using 4x4 House, advertising a vehicle, contacting a seller and purchasing any paid advertising or managed-selling service.
5 September 2026
Sellers must be honest, disclose material facts and keep their adverts current. Buyers must carry out their own checks. 4x4 House may reject or remove unsuitable, unlawful or misleading adverts. Paid services do not guarantee a sale, and removal for a seller's breach may mean that no refund is due. The full terms below apply.
Please read these terms
These Terms and Conditions (the Terms) apply when you browse or use 4x4house.co.uk and any associated 4x4 House pages, create an account, submit or manage an advert, contact another user, or purchase a paid service from us.
Some services may also have an order form, quotation or service-specific rules. If there is a conflict, the signed or accepted order takes priority only for that service. Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot lawfully be limited.

Acceptance and eligibility
By using the website, you confirm that you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the website or submit an advert.
- You must be at least 18 years old and legally capable of entering into a contract.
- You must provide accurate, current information and use the website only for lawful purposes.
- If you act for somebody else, you confirm that you have their authority and that both you and they will comply with these Terms.
- The website is intended primarily for vehicles located in the United Kingdom. We may refuse activity outside the areas we support.
Our role
4x4 House provides a specialist advertising and discovery platform. Unless a separate written agreement expressly says otherwise, we are not the owner, seller, buyer, dealer, auctioneer, valuer, vehicle inspector, finance provider, payment provider, escrow service or agent for either party.
The contract for the sale of a vehicle is made directly between the seller and buyer. Payment is made directly between them. We do not take ownership of vehicles and do not have possession of them.
We may review an advert, request evidence, improve its presentation or provide photography and copywriting. That does not amount to an inspection, verification, valuation, recommendation, warranty or endorsement. We do not guarantee the identity or conduct of a user, the accuracy or completeness of an advert, a vehicle's title, history, condition, roadworthiness, legality, value or suitability.
Every buyer must inspect the vehicle, check its history and documents, verify the seller and make their own decision before paying a deposit or completing a purchase.
Accounts and security
You must use your own details, keep your password confidential and tell us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without permission. You are responsible for activity carried out through your account unless it resulted from our failure to use reasonable care.
We may require reasonable identity, ownership or authority checks before publishing, renewing or restoring an advert. Do not place identity documents, a full V5C image, financial information, keys or your exact home address in public advert content.
You must not create accounts to evade a restriction, impersonate another person, conceal motor-trade activity or submit the same vehicle through multiple accounts.
Private sellers only
Unless we expressly introduce and label a different service, 4x4 House adverts are for genuine private sellers. A private seller is an individual selling a vehicle they personally own, or an individual with clear authority to sell for an owner, estate or family member.
You must not advertise as a private seller if you are acting wholly or mainly for purposes relating to a trade, business, craft or profession. This includes motor dealers, traders, brokers, buying services, commercial breakers and anybody who regularly buys or sells vehicles for profit, regardless of whether they describe themselves as a dealer.
We may consider the number, frequency and pattern of adverts, ownership records, contact details, other advertising and any information reasonably available to us. We may ask for evidence. If we reasonably believe that a person is acting in trade while claiming to be private, we may reject or remove their adverts, suspend their account and apply section 13 to any refund.
Eligible vehicles
4x4 House is a curated marketplace for pickups, capable four-wheel-drive vehicles, overland and expedition vehicles, and relevant modified, classic, imported or unusual vehicles. Submission does not create an automatic right to publication.
We may reject an advert that does not fit the focus, quality or safety standards of the marketplace. Our editorial decision about suitability is final, subject to your statutory rights. If we reject an otherwise truthful advert solely because it is outside our editorial focus, we will refund any undelivered paid advertising fee.
You must not submit:
- ordinary road-biased cars or crossovers that do not fit our specialist focus;
- dealer stock or vehicles being sold in the course of trade;
- a stolen, cloned, fraudulently identified or unlawfully obtained vehicle;
- a vehicle you do not own or have clear authority to sell;
- a vehicle that has been sold, is not genuinely available or is advertised only to generate leads;
- a whole vehicle that the law requires to be destroyed, or one for which a Certificate of Destruction has been issued;
- loose parts, parts-only adverts or vehicles being commercially broken, unless we later provide a specifically labelled service that permits them;
- duplicate adverts, auctions, raffles, competitions, finance offers, wanted adverts or services presented as vehicle adverts; or
- content or a vehicle whose advertising, ownership, use or sale would be unlawful.
A project, non-runner, imported vehicle, heavily modified vehicle or damaged vehicle may be accepted where the relevant listing category permits it and its condition, legal status and material defects are stated prominently and accurately.
Seller promises and disclosure
When you submit, approve, edit or renew an advert, you promise that all information is true, accurate, current, complete in all material respects and not misleading by what it says, what it implies or what it leaves out.
You must clearly disclose everything a reasonable buyer would regard as important, including where applicable:
- the correct make, model, year, variant, mileage, engine, transmission, drive system, price and VAT status;
- ownership and authority to sell, outstanding finance, import or export history and any restriction affecting transfer of good title;
- MOT status, known roadworthiness issues, warning lights, significant corrosion or chassis damage, mechanical or electrical faults and accident damage;
- any insurance write-off category, salvage history, identity change, replacement chassis, odometer discrepancy or material gap in history;
- modifications, conversions, suspension or body lifts, engine changes, emissions-system changes and anything requiring declaration to an insurer or approval for lawful road use;
- known defects in safety equipment, towing equipment, load-bed equipment, accessories or included items; and
- whether photographs are recent and show the actual vehicle in its current condition.
You must not use a false low price, conceal VAT, describe a deposit as the full price, manipulate mileage, claim unverified history, use another vehicle's identity or images, or make statements that you cannot reasonably substantiate.
You must check the final advert, including any content prepared by 4x4 House, and tell us immediately if anything is wrong. You remain responsible for factual accuracy even where we have written, formatted, photographed or uploaded the advert using information supplied by you.
You must update material changes promptly and mark the vehicle as sold or withdraw it as soon as it is no longer available.
Advert content and rights
You keep ownership of content you supply. You confirm that you created it or have all permissions needed for us to use it, and that it does not infringe copyright, privacy, data-protection or other rights.
You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, copy, resize, edit for layout or clarity, publish, distribute and promote that content for the purposes of operating and marketing 4x4 House and the vehicle. This includes use on our website, emails, search results and 4x4 House social channels, and supply to service providers that help us operate or promote the advert. The licence lasts while the advert or related promotion is active and for a reasonable archival, evidential and portfolio period afterwards.
We may correct formatting, spelling, obvious categorisation and image presentation. We will not knowingly change a material factual claim without the seller's approval. We may retain copies needed for fraud prevention, complaints, legal compliance and record keeping after public removal.
You must not upload personal data about another person without a lawful reason and their permission. Remove visible home addresses, bank details, document reference numbers and other unnecessary sensitive information from images and video.
Review, refusal and removal
We reserve the right to review, delay, reject, edit for presentation, pause, hide, mark as sold, refuse to renew or remove any advert, and to restrict or suspend an account, where we reasonably believe that action is necessary.
Reasons may include:
- false, inaccurate, inconsistent, exaggerated or misleading information;
- the omission of a material fact, known fault, write-off history, finance, VAT or trade status;
- an ineligible vehicle, dealer or trader activity, duplicate content or a vehicle that is sold or unavailable;
- suspected fraud, theft, cloning, unlawful conduct, intellectual-property infringement or risk to users;
- poor-quality, irrelevant, offensive, harmful or deceptive content;
- failure to provide reasonable evidence, answer a material query or correct an advert within the time requested;
- a report from a user, rights holder, payment provider, regulator, police force or other competent authority;
- a breach of these Terms, our Listing Rules or applicable law; or
- protecting the security, integrity, reputation or specialist focus of 4x4 House.
We do not need to establish fraud or obtain a court decision before taking protective action. Reasonable grounds are enough to pause or remove an advert while we investigate. Where practical and safe, we will explain the reason and provide a route to submit evidence or request a review.
Review or publication does not mean that we have verified or accepted responsibility for an advert. We are not required to monitor every advert continuously or investigate every statement, but may do so at our discretion.
Duration, expiry and renewal
The duration of an advert will be shown when it is submitted or purchased. If no different period is shown, a free advert will run for up to 30 days from publication.
We may contact you before or after expiry to ask whether the vehicle is sold, whether the advert remains accurate and whether you want to renew or improve it. Reminder emails are a courtesy and are not guaranteed to arrive. You remain responsible for the advert at all times.
An advert may expire or be hidden automatically unless you confirm that the vehicle remains available and review its contents. Renewal is subject to the current eligibility rules, prices and available products. We may decline repeated renewal of stale, poor-quality or unresponsive adverts.
Removing an advert because the vehicle sold does not create a right to a refund. Paid placement is a service for the agreed period, not a fee conditional on the vehicle remaining unsold.
Paid advertising and boosts
We may offer optional paid products such as featured placement, boosted visibility, additional media or promotional coverage. The price, duration and included features will be shown before purchase and confirmed in a durable form, such as an email.
- A paid product improves presentation or placement only. It does not guarantee a particular ranking, number of views, enquiry, offer, price, timescale or sale.
- Placement may vary by device, page, search filters, inventory and editorial scheduling.
- A boost applies only to the approved advert and may not be transferred without our agreement.
- The underlying advert must remain eligible, accurate and available throughout the paid period.
- Payment does not prevent us from moderating or removing the advert under section 9.
If we cannot supply a paid feature for reasons within our control, we will restore it, provide a reasonable equivalent, extend it, issue a proportionate credit or refund the undelivered part, as appropriate.
Managed-selling services
A managed-selling service may include photography, video, advert writing, listing administration, enquiry handling or distribution to agreed third-party platforms. Its exact scope, fee, expenses, timing and deliverables will be set out in a quotation or order.
Unless the order expressly appoints us to do more, we do not take ownership or possession of the vehicle, negotiate or accept an offer, receive the purchase money, warrant the vehicle or become a party to its sale. The seller decides whether to accept a buyer and remains responsible for the transaction.
The seller must:
- provide complete and accurate information, documents and answers;
- make the vehicle safely accessible at the agreed time and obtain any location or photography permission;
- disclose hazards, defects and anything that makes starting, moving, driving or photographing the vehicle unsafe;
- review and approve all factual statements before publication; and
- deal lawfully and honestly with every prospective buyer.
Unless an order says otherwise, we retain copyright in photographs, video and copy we create. The seller receives a non-exclusive licence to use the final supplied material to advertise that vehicle while they own it. We may use the material to operate and promote 4x4 House, including on our website, portfolio and social channels, while respecting applicable privacy law.
Third-party platforms have their own rules, moderation, availability and charges. We cannot guarantee that they will accept, retain or position an advert. Managed selling does not guarantee a buyer, sale price or sale.
Cancellation and refunds
Your statutory rights are not affected. If you are a consumer buying a service online, you will normally have 14 days from the date of the contract to cancel without giving a reason, subject to the exceptions and rules in consumer law.
If you expressly ask us to begin a paid service during that 14-day period and later cancel before it is complete, you must pay a proportionate amount for what has been supplied up to cancellation and any other amount the law permits. If the service is fully performed during the cancellation period after your express request and acknowledgement that the cancellation right will be lost on full performance, you will no longer have that right once it is fully performed.
To cancel, send a clear statement to the email in section 1, identifying yourself, the advert or order and the service being cancelled. You may use the model form below, but you do not have to. We will refund any sum due within 14 days after we are told of the cancellation, using the original payment method unless agreed otherwise.
Model cancellation form
Complete and return this form only if you wish to cancel the contract.
To: Jordan Jackson trading as 4x4 House, Roxbury, Penybont, Llandrindod Wells, Powys LD1 5UA, support@4x4house.co.uk
I/We hereby give notice that I/We cancel my/our contract for the supply of the following service:
Ordered on:
Name of consumer(s):
Address of consumer(s):
Signature of consumer(s), only if this form is notified on paper:
Date:
If an advert or paid service is removed, suspended or restricted because you breached these Terms, supplied false or misleading information, concealed a material fact, acted as a trader while claiming to be private, or failed to provide reasonably requested evidence:
- you will not be refunded for any service already supplied;
- we may deduct the value of work already completed and reasonable, non-recoverable costs caused by the breach from any amount otherwise refundable;
- we may set off a proven amount you owe us against a refund where the law permits; and
- this may mean that no refund is due, including where the paid service has been fully supplied or our reasonable value and costs equal or exceed the payment.
We will not withhold money where doing so would be unlawful. If we remove an advert in error and cannot promptly restore the paid service, we will provide an appropriate extension, credit or proportionate refund.
Changing your mind about selling, selling elsewhere or selling sooner than expected does not normally create a refund right once the relevant advertising service has been supplied, except where consumer law says otherwise.
Buyer responsibilities
An advert is an invitation to contact a seller, not our offer to sell a vehicle. Before paying or committing, buyers should:
- inspect and test the vehicle safely, preferably with an independent specialist;
- verify the seller's identity, address, ownership and authority to sell;
- check the V5C, VIN and chassis markings against the vehicle and records;
- obtain appropriate history, finance, theft, write-off, mileage and MOT checks;
- investigate modifications, insurance, emissions, import, registration and roadworthiness implications;
- confirm exactly what is included and record the agreed price and terms in writing; and
- use a safe, traceable payment method and treat requests for advance deposits with caution.
Read our Buyer Safety guidance. Guidance is general information, not professional or legal advice, and does not replace your own checks.
Contact and acceptable use
Seller contact facilities and enquiry information may be used only for genuine enquiries about the advertised vehicle. You must not:
- harass, threaten, discriminate against, deceive or impersonate another person;
- send spam, unrelated marketing, automated enquiries or bulk messages;
- scrape, harvest, sell or reuse adverts, images, prices or personal information;
- circumvent access controls, probe security, introduce malicious code or overload the service;
- use the website to facilitate fraud, money laundering, unlawful finance, theft or any illegal activity; or
- copy or commercially exploit 4x4 House branding, design, data or original content without permission.
We may use reasonable technical and manual measures to detect abuse, protect users and enforce these Terms.
Reports, complaints and disputes
If you believe an advert is false, unsafe, stolen, already sold, improperly presented as private or infringes your rights, report it through our contact page. Give the advert link, a clear explanation and any evidence you may lawfully share.
We may preserve records, contact the advertiser, request evidence, suspend content and cooperate with payment providers, insurers, regulators, law-enforcement bodies or other competent authorities where lawful and appropriate. We may disclose information where required by law or reasonably necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
We may take action on a report but are not a court, ombudsman or dispute-resolution service and are not obliged to decide a private dispute between buyer and seller. We will not normally reveal a reporter's identity unless they consent or disclosure is legally required.
For a complaint about a 4x4 House service, contact the email in section 1. We aim to acknowledge complaints within five working days and provide a substantive response within 14 working days, although complex cases may take longer.
Availability and service changes
We aim to keep 4x4 House available and accurate, but do not promise uninterrupted or error-free access. We may maintain, update, secure, change or withdraw parts of the website. Events outside our reasonable control may affect availability.
We may change listing fields, categories, eligibility rules, free allowances and paid products. Changes will not remove a paid benefit already purchased without an equivalent remedy where one is legally required.
Links and integrations may lead to third-party services. We do not control them and their own terms and privacy notices apply.
Our liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
If you are a consumer, we are responsible for losses that are a foreseeable result of our breach of these Terms or our failure to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, not caused by our breach, avoidable through reasonable action, or a business loss.
Subject to the paragraph above, we are not responsible for:
- the acts, omissions, identity or solvency of a buyer, seller or other third party;
- the accuracy of user content or a vehicle's ownership, history, condition, roadworthiness, legality, value or fitness for purpose;
- a failed, delayed, disputed or fraudulent vehicle transaction, payment, collection or delivery;
- loss caused by relying on an advert instead of completing appropriate checks;
- third-party websites, communications, payment services or events beyond our reasonable control; or
- loss arising because a user ignored these Terms, safety guidance or a clear warning.
If you use the website or a service for business purposes, we exclude all implied conditions, warranties and representations to the fullest extent permitted by law. We will not be liable for loss of profit, revenue, business, opportunity, anticipated saving, goodwill, data or any indirect or consequential loss. Our total liability arising from the relevant event will not exceed the greater of £100 and the fees you paid us for the affected service in the 12 months before that event.
You are responsible for reasonable, direct loss and cost we suffer because of your deliberate or reckless falsehood, unlawful content, infringement of another person's rights or other material breach of these Terms, to the extent permitted by law. We will take reasonable steps to limit any such loss.
Privacy and cookies
Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, retain and share personal data. Our Cookie Policy explains the technologies used on the website and the choices available to you.
Sellers understand that information intentionally placed in an advert, including a name, general location and chosen contact method, may be seen and copied by members of the public. Do not publish information that is not needed to sell the vehicle.
Ending access
You may stop using the website and request account closure at any time, subject to retention we lawfully require. Removing an account does not cancel an outstanding payment, erase a completed transaction record or prevent us retaining evidence required for fraud prevention, complaints or legal compliance.
We may suspend or end access immediately where reasonably necessary for security, suspected fraud, serious or repeated breach, unlawful activity or protection of other users. In less urgent cases, we may give an opportunity to correct the issue first.
Terms which by their nature should continue after access ends will do so, including provisions about content rights already exercised, payment, records, liability, disputes and governing law.
Changes and general terms
We may update these Terms to reflect changes to the service, law, regulation, security or business practice. The date at the top shows the latest version. Material changes affecting an active paid service will be notified by a reasonable method and will not apply retrospectively where that would be unfair or unlawful.
If any provision is found unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue. A delay in enforcing a right is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer your rights or obligations without our agreement. We may transfer ours as part of a genuine sale, transfer or reorganisation of the business, provided this does not reduce a consumer's rights.
These Terms, together with documents expressly incorporated into them and any accepted order, form the agreement between us about the relevant service. No person other than you and us has a right to enforce them, except where the law provides otherwise.
Governing law and courts
These Terms and any non-contractual dispute are governed by the law of England and Wales.
If you are a consumer resident in England or Wales, the courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in the courts where you live. If you use the service for business purposes, the courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction.
Contact 4x4 House before submitting an advert or purchasing a service if anything is unclear.
